Background:
I was honored to undertake a unique and meaningful project for Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS), under the guidance of the development manager. The task was to design a compelling flyer aimed at artists, promoting a special fundraising event in collaboration with the Frank Bette Gallery. The fundraising event, a joint initiative between the Frank Bette Gallery and FAAS, is designed to celebrate the bond between art and compassion. Participating artists are invited to create personalized pet portraits for generous donors, with proceeds benefiting both the gallery and FAAS.
Process:
The FAAS Development Manager and I met with the lead coordinator for the Frank Bette Gallery to discuss the details of the event. We planned out the process from the call for artists email with flyer, to gathering donors who want a pet portrait made, to the final showcase event at the gallery later in the year. I listened to the needs and wants of both the Frank Bette Gallery and FAAS, and then began the creation process. It was important in the call for artists flyer to include an example of how a pet portrait could look to inspire artists, so I took two pictures of animals that were currently at the FAAS shelter and turned them into digital pet portraits. The Development Manager sent me details of the desired color scheme, as well as the logos to be included in the flyer. Once the flyer was created it was reviewed and approved by FAAS and the Frank Bette Gallery and emailed to artists, as well as printed and displayed on business windows.
Takeaways:
Through this project, I aimed to capture the essence of creativity, compassion, and community spirit. By designing an engaging and informative flyer, my goal was to inspire artists to join us in making a tangible difference while celebrating the power of art to connect and uplift.
